Glaciotectonic Map Project

The Work Group on Glacial Tectonics began operating in the mid-1980s as part of the INQUA Commission on Formation and Properties of Glacial Deposits. One major goal of WGGT was to produce continent-scale maps of glaciotectonic landforms and structures for North America and Europe. The original proposal was simply to create maps of glaciotectonic features. It quickly became clear that a GIS approach would be best for compiling the various kinds of information and producing maps. James S. Aber agreed to coordinate the North American WGGT map project, and David G. Croot is coordinator for European glaciotectonic mapping.

The North American project was completed in 1995 with publication of the Glaciotectonic Map of North America. Work is continuing on the European glaciotectonic data base.
