Kyushu, Japan: NASA space-shuttle photograph, STS066-100-027, 11/14/94, 70 mm format.
Near-vertical view, southeast toward top. Sakurajima volcano, one of the world's most active
volcanoes, is located in the caldera harbor of Kagoshima. The volcano is erupting in this
view, as it has almost continuously for the last 1200 years. This view shows a relatively
quiet day with a plume of steam from the summit crater.
