Space-shuttle photograph of Kliuchevskoi volcano erupting in Kamchatka, far eastern Russia, Sept. 30, 1994. This image was captured on color-visible film by the Linhof camera from the space shuttle Endeavour. Low-oblique view (north to left) shows an early stage of eruption in which the ash cloud is blowing over the Pacific Ocean toward the southeast. This image demonstrates the importance of remote sensing for documenting significant environmental events in all parts of the world. Image obtained from NASA JSC Imagery Services, STS68-150-045.
