Three, objective, written, take-home exams.* Each exam covers lecture, reading, and lab material for about five weeks of the semester. Each exam worth 20% of total grade.
Lab exercises.* Labs involve map, cross-section, geometric, or graphic analysis of structural problems. Exercises should be typed (computer printed) or neatly lettered and drawn in ink. Exercises are due normally one week after the lab session; late labs may receive a grade penalty. Labs are worth 25% of total grade.
Field trip. One-day field trip to Chase County will take place on a Saturday in late October or early November. We will view surficial expression of anticlines, synclines, faults and other phenomena associated with the buried Nemaha uplift and Humboldt fault zone. Measurements taken on the field trip will be utilized to construct a structure-contour map on the Cottonwood Limestone. Participation is required; worth 10% of total grade.
Class participation: Students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions as well as the field trip. Students are also expected to attend occasional earth science seminars during the semester. Participation is worth 5% of grade.
