Geographic Extent of the Nebraska Sand Hills

   The Sand Hills cover 25% of the state of Nebraska.  They represent, by far, the largest single geographic feature of the state.     The Nebraska Sand Hills stretch for 265 miles from west to east and 125 miles from north to south at their widest point..  They reach  into southern edge of  South Dakota as well. They cover 19,300 square miles of Nebraska's  total 76,639 square miles.  Some dunes are 400 feet tall and as long as 20 miles.
