Tectonics Grading Scale
A combination of percentage and letter grades are utilized for evaluation of student performance in this course. Tests are scored on points, which are converted into percentage grades. Article summaries and webpage reports are graded using letters (A to F) with +/- subdivisions. Final course grades are reported as letters (A-F) with +/- designations. Incomplete (I) grades will be considered only in extreme circumstances, such as severe illness, major accident, military service, etc.
|Grade ||Percent1 ||4-point|
|A ||Above 92 ||4.0 |
|A- ||92-90 ||3.7 |
|B+ ||89-87 ||3.3 |
|B ||86-83 ||3.0 |
|B- ||82-80 ||2.7 |
|C+ ||79-77 ||2.3 |
|C ||76-70 ||2.0 |
|D ||69-60 ||1.0 |
|F ||Below 60 ||0.0 |
Policy on incomplete grades: An I must be completed within one semester, or it will automatically be converted to an F. Course work for incomplete grades will be accepted through the last day of classes in the semester following the course (excluding summer). All necessary course materials must be handed in by that date. Additional assignments will not be accepted during finals week.
- Percentage values may be adjusted in exceptional cases.
Note: All student tests, reports, and exercises are kept on file in paper or digital format for at least one year. These documents may be consulted to resolve any concerns about grading.
