Some materials are provided as pdf files, including lecture and lab handouts as well as article reprints. These items are available for downloading to student computers via FTP (file transport protocol). Instructions below apply to students working in the ESU Geospatial Analysis Laboratory. Distance-learning students may have to modify these procedures slightly to accomodate their own computer systems. Students should utilize software designed specifically for FTP (not a web browser).
FTP Instructions
Select FTP icon from the main screen or Internet menu box.
Under "profile name" select the WS_FTP32 option.
For "host name/address" enter academic.emporia.edu and leave "host type" as automatic detect.
The "user ID" is student. Contact your instructor for the appropriate password.
Next click on the "Startup" tab. For "initial remote host directory" fill in /home/aberjame/datasets/wetland/, and for "initial local directory" fill in c:/student/pqr (or d:/student/pqr), where "pqr" is the name of your student directory.
Click "OK" and wait for the FTP connection to be established.
Select files to copy from the remote host to the local PC, and click the arrow button to transfer files. Do not attempt to copy any files from your computer to the FTP host computer.
Note: Some distance-learning students have experienced difficulty with FTP. The problem apparently has to do with certain FTP software or Internet providers, in which large files are sometimes truncated. Note size of original files and compare to the files received. If you have this problem, please contact the instructor to obtain files via other means.
