Learning Community in Biology
Emporia State University
Here is an exciting opportunity for you to engage your special interest in Biology at Emporia State University. The learning community (LC) is composed of a group of students and faculty who work together to insure that all members of the group learn in a supportive environment. The LC will provide an excellent opportunity for you to make the personal connections that are so important for your academic success.
The goals of the LC are:
- To introduce students in both a formal and informal way to the study of biology.
- To help students excel in their courses.
- To provide a framework in which students can connect with other students with an interest in biology.
- To provide activities that put faculty and students in contact with each other in settings outside of the traditional lecture or lab format.
- To allow students to develop better connections with the Department of Biological Sciences and Emporia State University.
For this (2002) fall semester, we are planning one social (dinner) event per month for the fall semester. All of these events will be free to the students who are members of the LC.
All students who are in the Learning Community will take the same sequence of courses. To be a member, you must meet several criteria and you must apply.
