Look at the several volumes of the ESU On-Line Management Journal now in place, each containing serveral articles. Please take some time to review several of these articles, in more that one recent volume. Note which ones you liked and didn't like, strong points and weak points, reminders of things you want to do and don't want to do as you prepare your own article.
Choose Subject for Electronic Journal Article
I would like to work with you in choosing the subject for your Electronic Journal Article which will be published in the ESU On-Line Management Journal for everyone to see. The general intent is that you choose a fairly narrow area of interest and then do your research to go into more depth about the very specific topic of interest within Services Managment topics. This is not a rehash of course material. You will start with some brief reference to course material and then demonstrate a grasp of that topic in depth, using several examples to illustrate that. Usually best to focus on one or two company situations to add real-world perspective to your paper.
Write a paragraph or so specifying the proposed topic of your research and your article. Send it by e-mail to smithwil@emporia.edu This is due Thursday, July 6 (earlier would be just great!)
(You pay substitute a team proposal, if you have my permission to do so, of course. In this case, of course, I will expect a team project equal to or greater than the sum of team member individual contributions!)
Be sure to specify MG476, Activity Two-1 on the subject line.
Your research should include both web searches and library research for optimal results. You will want to present the results of your research in an article that uses links to appropriate existing web sites most effectively, for example. You will want to write in short, concise paragraphs to make the article readable and draw the reader along, keep them interested, and desiring to complete the article. You will want to include clear and accurate citations in your article and complete and useful list of references at the end of the article. At the end of the article you should include a brief biography including an e-mail link and reference to your personal web page, where appropriate. You should use images to add interest to your article.
1. You will choose a topic related to the content of this course that you find especially interesting, that you would like to explore in more depth. (See Activity Two-1)
2. Your web page content will be approx. 2000 words (of content), organized for ease of reading into sub-parts with headings. [Word count must be between 1800 and 2200 or the article will be returned for further editing.]
2.a. You will insert external links of related materials. Six to eight links are probably appropriate for most articles.
2.b. Providing appropriate citations of source material is essential.
2.c. You will include a reference list at the end of the article, along with a short bio: name, hometown, major, year in school, work place (optional).
3. Your articles will make up a new issue of the ESU On-line Management Journal Home Page. So, prepare them accordingly. People all over the world may be reading them, now and into the future. You may even want to reference your page on your resume.
4. Your articles are due by midnight, Wednesday, Jul 26, (sooner is better!). The article will be in Web Page format.
Good luck - and, have fun.
