COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course follows a service and/or product from its design to where and how it will be produced using concepts of concurrent engineering, total quality management, and statistical process control ending with an evaluation of the different inventory control systems available.

COURSE OBJECTIVE(S): (See separate sheet)

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE COURSE: This course will include one individual oral presentation to the class by each student, including the use of media material. Each student will participate in one group project which will culminate in a group oral presentation to the class which actively involves each student member of the group, including the use of media material. Both oral and group presentations will be peer reviewed in addition to review by the instructor. The class will use Internet and other resources, including e-mail and the World Wide Web to locate, analyze, and report on additional sources of information of value to enhance individual student understanding of specific topic areas on the course. This material will be presented on the class Web Home Page for peer review and use by indiviual students as well as to share with other interested parties.

COURSE EVALUATION PROCESS:

Activities assigned during the course provide the opportunity for each student to earn and accumulate points according the following schedule:

Attendance 44

Participation Activities 56

Individual Presentation 50

Group Presentation 50

Home Work Assignments 100

Electric Journal Article 100

Four regular exams @ 50 each 200

Total possible 600 points

Letter grades will be assigned based on accumulated points as follows:

B- 480 to 539 points

C- 420 to 479 points

D- 360 to 419 points

F- less than 360 points

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Regular attendance and participation each day is expected of each student, both physically and mentally. Each student is expected to have read the assigned materials and completed any homework assignments prior to the beginning of each class period. (Also, it is the responsibility of each individual student to enroll and withdraw from this class, and to understand the rules and procedures for doing so.) Each student will begin the course with 100 points in this area. For each hour of class missed, for any reason, one point will be deducted. A class missed cannot be made up - discussions by the instructor or by fellow classmates, once held, are gone forever - you will have missed something important from the course. There are 44 possible hour periods. The other 56 points will be earned through pop quizzes, peer review from discussion groups, and in other participation activities which I will conduct during the term. I reserve the right to assign these specific points, equitable, in the best interests of the conduct of the class and of the individual student.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: At Emporia State University, academic dishonesty is a basis for disciplinary action. Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to activities such as cheating and plagiarism (presenting as one's own the intellectual or creative accomplishments of another without giving credit to the source or sources). The faculty member in whose course or under whose tutelage an act of academic dishonesty occurs has the option of failing the student for the academic hours in question and may refer the case to other academic personnel for further action. Emporia State University may impose penalties for academic dishonesty up to and including expulsion from the university. This policy provided according to the Kansas Board of Regents directive.
